Creative Team
Creativity is catching,
especially in the case of husband and wife team Brenda and John
Diepeveen. John is well-known for his creations of bronze with another medium,
such as acrylic, wood, or stainless steel. Brenda's talents lie in the written word. She has
recently finished a book about a Mormon Pioneer woman which showcases polygamy and Utah
History.

First Wife
In May 1999 I read again the short
autobiography of Mary Ann, and I was struck by the force of her struggle.
Her trials with three small
children on the banks of the Mississippi River after the Battle of Nauvoo where
mobs had pushed her
from her home touched me deeply. I felt her pain as I pictured myself in
her place with my three small children living through those same struggles. I
could scarcely imagine starvation, being accosted by wicked mobs, or bringing my
family into the total unknown as this brave woman did. A bond
was born between us, and I wanted to tell this amazing woman's story.

Bronze Sculptures
John's strength lies in the detail he creates. For example his sculpture of Christ has
wonderful detail in the face and hands. His inspiration for the piece comes from the
story of
Christ and the rich young man. Christ tells this man that he needs
to forsake his riches and follow
him. The sculpture has a peaceful feel, and his hands are beckoning people
to follow him. This story follows along with so many Mormon pioneers who
have sacrificed so much to be members of the L.D.S. Church.
